Aston Villa v Burnley
Aston Villa were thrashed 6-1 at Southampton last weekend but Tim Sherwood’s men will want to put that shocker behind them immediately with a good performance against Burnley. And whoever is in the starting XI will be desperate to impress and keep their place for the FA Cup final against Arsenal next week. Villa have scored 25 goals since mid-February, Burnley just 3. Villa have won 8 times, Burnley just twice.
Newcastle v West Ham
Newcastle have lost 9 of their last 10 matches in the Premier League. They could lose here too and still stay up as it’s Hull who hold the key. If Steve Bruce’s side beat Man United then Newcastle will have to beat the Hammers to stay in the division. West Ham have won just 3 of their last 20 Premier League games. These wins came against Burnley, Hull and Sunderland and all of them were at Upton Park.
Lazio v Roma
After winning so impressively at Sampdoria last week, Lazio were disappointed to lose a closely contested Coppa Italia final in extra time against Juventus on Wednesday. Now a Champions League place is all they have left to aim for. After their title challenge started to look increasingly weak, Roma lost their form, but they have picked up impressively to give themselves a realistic chance of 2nd place. They’ve now won 3 of their last 4 games. With a draw here, Roma would guarantee themselves a Champions League playoff spot.
Juventus v Napoli
Juventus are unbeaten in their last 46 Serie A home games (41 wins, 5 draws), but they have 2 trophies in the bag (Serie A & Coppa Italia) and will be switching their focus towards the Champions League final. So Massimiliano Allegri’s side are unlikely to be at full throttle on Saturday, and the Bianconeri have now drawn 3 of their last 4 matches in all competitions. Napoli have a habit of playing well against the bigger teams in Serie A and Rafa Benitez’s men will attempt to keep their fading Champions League dream alive. However, Napoli have won only one of their last 7 league games on the road, losing 5 of these.
Granada v Atletico Madrid
Coach Sandoval has managed to inspire the home side to 3 consecutive wins since arriving at the helm, with Granada sitting 2 points above the drop zone heading into the last day. The hosts have also suffered only 2 defeats in the last 13 games on home soil. Atletico Madrid come into this contest on a 3-match winless run, but are unbeaten on the road in 7 La Liga games. A point should be enough for Granada to survive given their head-to-head results and their guests Atleti need just one to hit their target too – 3rd place, and automatic passage to the Champions League group phase.
